Master Joe's Guide To PC Maintainance Second Edition - This is a guide that I created originally to assist the Waynesburg College IT department in an attempt to educate the students on better practices for computer maintainance and security. It covers many basic ideas behind various security practices and tools including adware scanning and removal, virus scanning and removal, good security practices, and other helpful tips of maintaining a personal computer.

Registry Tweaks
Require Alphanumeric Password - This registrty tweak will allow you to restrict Windows passwords to be alphanumeric.

Custom Banner - This will allow you to make a custom banner appear when a user logs into Windows. Right-click the file and select Open With... and select Notepad as the program in which to open this file, so taht you can specify the banner title and text.

Custom Internet Explorer Caption - This will allow you to specify the Internet Explorer window caption. Simply right-click the file, select Open With... from the menu, and select Notepad as the program in which you want to open this file. Then, specify the text that you want the caption to contain.

Custom Login Prompt - This allows you to customize the prompt text for logging in to Windows. Simply right-click the file, select Open With... from the menu, and select Notepad as the program to open this file. Then, specify the text that you would like to appear on the Windows login prompt.

Custom Password Prompt - This will allow you to customize the text for the password prompt at Windows login. Simply right-click this file, select Open With... from the menu, and select Notepad as the program in which you would like this file to open. Then, specify the text that you would like to appear as the password prompt text at Windows login.

Disable Password Change - This will allow you to disable the option for a Windows user to change their password.

Disable Drive Access - This will allow you to restrict access to a specified drive. Simply right-click this file, select Open With... from the menu, and select Notepad as the program in which you want this file to open. Then, specify the number of the drive that you wish to restrict access to.

Disable Internet Explorer Password Cache - This will cause Internet Explorer passwords to no longer be cached. This is good for security purposes and ensuring the privacy of personal passwords.

Disable Log Off - This allows you to make it impossible for users to log off of their Windows account.

Disable Windows Password Caching - This disables the caching of Windows passwords, which is good for security purposes.

Disable Screen Saver - This will disable the Windows screen saver from coming up.

Disable Shut Down - This disables the option for a user to shut down the computer.

Disable User Customization - This disables the ability of users to create user profiles in Windows, so that the customization of themes, colors, and other options within their account is disabled.

Disable Windows Update - This disables a user from using the Windows Update option.

Don't Display Last User Name - This will make it so that Windows does not display the last user to log in to the computer.

Force Logon At Screen Saver - This makes it so that users must re-login when the screen saver is activated.

Force Log Off From Start Menu - This makes it so that users must log off through the Windows Start menu.

Lock CD Drives - This locks the CD drives in a computer.

Lock Floppy Drives - This locks floppy drives in a computer.

Lock The Windows Registry - This will lock the Windows registry.

Lock Toolbars - This will lock the toolbars within Windows.

Specify Minimum Windows Password Length - This allows you to specify the minimum length of a password that can be used by a user as their Windows password. Simply right-click the file, select Open With... from the menu, and select Notepad as the program in which you want to open this file. Then, you can change the number to specify the minimum number of characters that you wish to allow users to use for a Windows password.

Disable Right-Click On The Desktop - This prevents users from right-clicking on the Windows Desktop.

Disable Windows Hotkeys - This will disable the Windows hotkeys from being used.

Require Ctrl+Alt+Del at Login - This will make it so that users are reuired to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del before they are allowed to log in to Windows.

Enable Shut Down From Login Prompt - This will make it so that users are allowed to shut down the computer from the Windows login prompt.
