While I do not normally mention specific products, I am making an exception. This month, I got my hands on two products, which both serve excellent purposes for me. The first is the Microsoft Zune 120 GB. What do I use this for? Primarily, I use it as an MP3 player, to listen to FM radio, and to carry about 10% of my 1.2 TB music collection with me, especially on the bus to and from work. In addition, my full intention is to use it to keep up-to-date, via podcasts, of some of my interests, such as Off The Hook, a weekly radio show done by the people over at 2600, the same prople who produce the 2600 Hacker Quarterly magazine. Now, the second product is the Amazon Kindle DX. My purpose for this is that I have a large collection of books. However, it is not possible for me to erad on the road, as I use a special device to do my reading, which magnifies print. However, the Kindle allows me to download these books, and read them with an increased font size, and carry them with me. Another intent is to put agendas and documents on the device, in order that I can follow along during meetings at work. Finally, I hope to use this device to do something which I was unable to do in college, and that is have my textbooks in class. I am hoping to attend graduate school in the Fall, and would benefit greatly from being able to access my textbook, while in class. In addition, the Kindle allows me to subscribe to magazines, newspapers, and other periodicals, in order to keep up-to-date on what is going on in the news, sports, politics, etc. So, what does the title of this month's update mean? Well, two devices, which have wireless connectivity, and can keep me plugged into all of the latest media outlets, while still being completely mobile, enriching both my work activities, as well as entertainment.
As far as the site goes, a few new applications were added this month, as well as some version updates of others. I have a long list of new applications to add, and am hoping to completely add all of those, over the course of the next month. Finally, I thought it woudl be appropriate to congratulate the Stanley Cup Champions of 2009, the Pittsburgh Penguins. As anyone who has read the About Me page knows, I am from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and still live there. With the Pens winning last night, 2 to 1, in game 7 against the Detroit Red Wings, history was once again made, right here in the Steel City. Pittsburgh is now the first team to have won 6 Super Bowls, with the Pittsburgh Steelers winning earlier this year, and is now the first city to have won both the Super Bowl, and the Stanley Cup, in one year.
